pH

pH is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of the swimming pool water and it is crucial for maintaining water quality and safety. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, where a pH of 7 is considered neutral. In swimming pools, the ideal pH level is typically between 7.2 and 7.8. This slightly alkaline range helps ensure the effectiveness of chlorine as a disinfectant while providing a comfortable environment for swimmers. Maintaining the right pH balance is essential for the pool’s water quality, swimmer comfort, and the longevity of the pool’s equipment.

Signs of Low pH:

· Corrosive water

· Pits concrete

· Dissolves metals

· Stains surfaces

· Damage to heater, lights, or handrails

· Skin and/or eye irritation

Signs of High pH:

· Scaling water

· Creates a white film/crusty deposits

· Plugs filters

· Clouds Water

· Reduces circulation

· Rough surfaces

· Lessens the chlorine effectiveness
